It’s no surprise that girls often shy away from exercise at the age of 14/15. Sadly, the education system in the UK often presents running as a form of punishment. So we wanted to change that reality and show girls how beneficial movement can be within their lives.
For our first WMN RUN youth project with the support of Nike, we ran and led workshops with these wonderful year 10 girls every week for three months, showing them how running can offer strength, respite and unity. On Wednesday 16th, we organised 45 optional spaces for the Run Through Crystal Palace 5K. Out of that 45, 44 of them CHOSE to run their first 5K and they absolutely loved it. The head of P.E is also now re-writing the curriculum to include running. We have high hopes that these super stars are now embracing all of the opportunities running can offer as they head into their final year.
